Before he became the ‘Hairy Javelin’, international cricket hero, Grant Elliott was Retail NZ’s business development manager. In a segment for TVNZ’s Seven Sharp last night, he invited a camera crew into his life off the pitch.rn
Having joined Retail NZ in September last year, Elliott stepped away from his desk in January to join the Cricket World Cup squad. He gained hero status when he propelled New Zealand into the final round against Australia. When his opponent Dale Steyn collapsed to the ground in despair, Elliott also won the heart of the crowd by taking Steyn’s hand and offering him words of encouragement.
Retail NZ CEO Mark Johnston praised Elliott as “one of life’s good guys” in the latest issue of NZ Retail magazine.
“What struck me about Grant when I first met him was his instinctive awareness of the people around him and his appetite for hard work and learning. He understood that some change to his personal circumstances was inevitable – and he wanted to get on the front foot in terms of developing a new career after cricket.”
