In February, the magazine emerged from a rebranding looking shinier and savvier than ever. With a bigger format, perfect binding and a bi-monthly publishing schedule, NZRetail is completed by its long-awaited online arm, The Register.
NZRetail was first launched in 1948 as the official magazine of Retail NZ (formerly known as the New Zealand Retailers’ Association).
At 67-years-old, it is arguably NZ’s oldest business magazine.
NZRetail has won the respect of retailers around the country and a slew of awards: most recently, Best Business & Trade Cover at The Maggies in 2010, a GOLD for its content page in the 2009 TABBIE international awards, Designer and Cover of the Year in the trade/professional category at the Magazine Publishers’ Association Awards in 2008.
Tangible Media and Retail NZ came together at the end of 2014 to refresh the magazine.
Publisher Vincent Heeringa says when Retail NZ asked Tangible Media to re-imagine the NZRetail magazine, the company jumped at the chance.
“We said ‘yes’ immediately because, like them, we see huge potential for growth, especially in the digital space,” Heeringa says.
Chief executive of Retail NZ, Mark Johnston, says it was an easy decision to pair up with Tangible Media once more.
“Together we’ve successfully produced an award-winning magazine. But nothing stands still in retail,” Johnston says.
“Plus we’d seen how successful Tangible has been with products like StopPress and Idealog, so we asked for some fresh thinking. Vincent and the team have done a great job of re-imagining the future for retail.”
The magazine has been reinvented as a bi-monthly magazine that is published six times a year in February, April, June, August, October and December.
Each issue is mailed to every member of Retail NZ and key stakeholders within the industry. The first new-look issue is out now.
As well as this, TheRegister.co.nz is the online arm to the magazine that provides a daily dose of news, insight, inspiration and job opportunities and a twice-weekly e-newsletter.
