Light Plan, an Auckland and Wellington-based company which sells lighting solutions to designers, was in need of a space that doubled as both a retail store and a product showroom. It also needed to be flexible enough to accommodate changing stock throughout the season.
Spaceworks’ retail and hospitality design manager Christy Ormand says Light Plan asked for an area which would showcase the lights in a real-life environment so that customers could visualise the product in their homes.
Ormand says this meant the look of the store had to be neutral without being dull, so the products would stand out.
Lights for sale are hung above the store’s consultation desks and workstation, which both showcases the lights and demonstrates what they look like in an everyday environment.
The store has warm and natural wood finishes, with the biggest pop of colour featured in the carpet.
The carpet, by Bolon in Australia, is designed in a triangular pattern with grey, black and yellow colours to subtly weave Lightplan’s branding into the overall design.
Light Plan’s customer base includes landscape designers, interior designers, property owners and a growing end-consumer customer base.
General manager of Light Plan Haydn Mellor says since the company’s move into the new store late last year, foot traffic has increased by 400 percent.
