The Warehouse Group board appoints new Future Director programme participant

Contact Energy chief customer officer Vena Crawley has been named as The Warehouse Group's Future Director for the current financial year. The Future Director programme is an initiative aimed at addressing the experience gap faced by skilled younger professionals seeking to become directors of public companies. Launched in 2013, it gives participants 12 months’ exposure and experience at board level. 

In his role at Contact Energy, Crawley is taking a lead role in the transformation of Contact's retail and customer business. He has previously worked for companies such as IAG and ASB Group/Sovereign, holding roles in the FMCG, advertising, telco, retail and export industries.  

Crawley also has previous governance experience, including as a director with Loyalty NZ and Workbase NZ. 

The Warehouse Group board chair Joan Withers said, “With career credentials that have included a variety of challenges and opportunities internationally and locally, his significant experience in driving customer centricity within organisations together with his Samoan heritage, Mr Crawley has skills and attributes which will enable him to provide a new perspective to board discussions on a variety of emerging issues. We look forward to the contribution Mr Crawley will make to the company and as a board we are delighted that we have the opportunity to assist in increasing the availability of candidates in New Zealand ready for director appointments.”

Malcolm Phillipps was chosen as Future Director for the last financial year. The Warehouse Group reports that he has been successful in obtaining director appointments after participating.
