Cotton On's Kiwi country manager Mark Singleton has passed away

Cotton On's New Zealand country manager Mark Singleton has passed away. Singleton presided over a period of significant investment in New Zealand, announcing in 2015 that Cotton On intended to boost store numbers by around 50 percent and nearly double its staff.

New Zealand was the Australian fast fashion chain's first international expansion. It entered in 2006. Singleton joined the Cotton On Group in 2013 as brand manager for Cotton On before swiftly working his way up the ladder.

Cotton On has this to say about Singleton's vision for New Zealand: "Under Mark’s guidance, the group is looking to double its current footprint of 136 stores, within the next three years and employ another 1000 staff across its country hub, retail and distribution centre functions."

It says that with Singleton's strong belief in the importance of individual accountability and the implementation of systems and structures that support a focus on results, significant cultural revitalisation and change has been achieved in the group’s New Zealand operations.

Following the loss of Singleton last week, the company is working through a plan to decide who will assume his role. Cotton On corporate affairs manager Tahlia Weston says the current focus is on supporting the New Zealand team, and members of the global team have been stationed locally to help out. Cotton On's senior leadership team will be stepping in to manage the New Zealand operations.

"Mark has made an incredible contribution to our business over the last four years and will be sorely missed," she says.

Catch Group launches bargain website in New Zealand

A new website called Catch of the Day will target Kiwi bargain-hunters with thousands of products across dozens of retail categories. The suite of sites run by owner Catch Group in Australia sell an item every 2.8 seconds, and ship over 10,000 orders per day.
