Touchdown: All Black store opens in Auckland Airport

Moving into the retail sector, All Blacks has opened its first merchandise store in Auckland Airport in a bid to diversify its income.

There is no doubt All Blacks merchandise is a big spending point for fans, and now international fans can have access to the teams official branding as the enter, or leave, the terminal.

Owned by New Zealand Rugby, the store comes on the back of a record year for the company.

The new fitout shows a rugby lover’s dream, with branding lines from wall to wall and smart screens showing game footage.

Officially merchandise beforehand had only been sold via Adidas-owned channels.

The store is located on level one of the new Auckland Airport renovated international terminal, yet as it is before customs you don’t have to be flying to purchase All Black memorabilia.

Richard Barker, Auckland Airport’s general manager retail and commercial, says the new store will be an exciting addition to the airport’s retail hub.

“We’re delighted Auckland Airport will be the home of New Zealand’s first Official All Blacks Store. The All Blacks are New Zealand’s premier sports team and current back-to-back world champions. Their values and success are a perfect fit for our retail goal of providing customers with the best of New Zealand and the world. This new store will ensure travellers can purchase popular All Blacks memorabilia before they travel overseas.”

NZR's income last year of $257m was nearly $100m more than 2016's income of $162m. However, the NZR also spent more in 2017 - $224m, compared to $169m in 2016.

The store opened at Auckland Airport yesterday morning and will sell the entire range of All Blacks merchandise.
