Lower Hutt’s Queensgate Shopping Centre continues its post-quake transformation

A raft of new high street retailers are opening at Queensgate Shopping Centre in Lower Hutt, Wellington. Among the most-anticipated of the centre’s upcoming openings are H&M and Mecca Maxima, but there’s plenty of others in addition.

Stride Investment Management Limited, managers of Queensgate Shopping Centre, has announced a full calendar of retail store openings at the centre for the latter end of 2017.

Roy Stansfield, Stride’s general manager for shopping centres, says the arrival of the range of stores heralds a new era for Queensgate, which has undergone significant refurbishment following the earthquake late last year. It partially closed a year ago, and re-opened in March after six months of construction and demolition work.

“We’re already looking forward to the much-anticipated arrival of clothing retailer H&M on Thursday, 26 October, so to have these new stores joining the centre in the coming months promises an exciting shopping experience for Queensgate customers in the lead up to Christmas,” says Stansfield.

Queensgate’s new stores are:

  • Australian cosmetics and skincare retailer Mecca Maxima will open its fourth New Zealand store at the centre in November.
  • Australian apparel retailer Seed Heritage will open its first full-concept store stocking newborn, baby, child and womenswear in November.
  • New Zealand outdoor clothing and equipment retailer Macpac will open at Queensgate by the end of 2017.
  • American footwear retailer Skechers is due to open within the coming months, also.

“Alongside these exciting new stores, we are also happy to announce that existing Queensgate stores Amazon, Merchant and Decjuba will be opening new concept stores before Christmas,” says Stansfield.

Health 2000, Glassons and Hallensteins are also upgrading existing stores. Stansfield says recent store openings at Queensgate include Hannahs, Portmans, Boost Juice, Bed Bath N Table, and Bed Bath and Beyond Homestore.
