The Warehouse Group show transgender support

The Warehouse Group have shown support for Transgender staff by offering paid leave and support for gender-transition employees at all its branches.

The new policy offers paid leave of up to 10 days and additional support for staff The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationary, Noel Leeming and Torpedo 7 of medical counselling appointments associated.  

Chief people officer Anna Campbell said it was a business priority to encourage an "inclusive and diverse organisation.”

"The policy reflects that we are an inclusive and welcoming organisation committed to supporting all of our people and customers, regardless of who they are."

This move towards a larger support follows in the steps of Countdown, who a few months ago introduced a similar policy.

The Warehouse Group has over 12,000 team members and the new policy includes training mangers on how to appropriately provide support and encouragement.

The Employment New Zealand site, says about transition while working is a “unique and personal experience.”

Transgender people are are protected under the Human Rights Act from discrimination on the grounds of gender identity. This protection covers almost all aspects of employment including job advertisements, application forms, interviews and job offers. It also applies to unpaid workers and independent contractors.

The site says employees are encouraged to discuss with their employer what steps they are intending to take within the workplace and what this means for other staff and possibly clients.

Although the code gives suggested guidelines to help transitioning members, they are only recommendations. Companies are encouraged by the site to have their own policies in place to help employees.

Michael Hill has announced its first-year profits, with a noted decrease of 66 percent. The drop-in profit has been attributed to the repositioning of Emma & Roe and the cost of exiting the US.
