New Zealand to receive another international retailer

Adding to the collection of our latest international retailers, Australian furniture retailer Nick Scali has announced plans to open three New Zealand locations.

The popular Australian homeware brand has its sights set on New Zealand in a goal to meet its target of 75 stores across here and Australia.

The first store has been confirmed for December this year, its location is yet to be announced.

Nick Scali Furniture was founded in 1962 by Nick D. Scali, and is one of Australia’s largest furniture importers. The ranges include different price points and covers mostly living and dining parts of home décor.  

Managing director Anthony Scali plans to open another ten stores across the next financial year, including the company’s first New Zealand store in December, but related earnings will only begin to be generated by 2019.

“Although our overall performance has been underpinned by the current favourable market conditions, I am pleased with the gross margin percentage increase and expense percentage decrease, which have both contributed to another record profit result,” Scali said.

There has been speculation that yet another furniture retailer was set to join our shores as more space opens for potential large retailers. Kiwi property have recently announced a 20 hectare additional space to Sylvia Park, but are yet to disclose who will be filling that spot.
