Sylvia Park's new million-dollar food precinct

The Sylvia Park Shopping Centre has announced the opening of its new world-class dining precinct later this year. The project is a $9.1 million expansion of the pre-existing dining lane.

The new expansion is due to open in December of this year and is a welcome addition to the Auckland growing food obsession.

Architectural design for The Grove

The new lane will provide a contemporary alfresco dining experience including six new restaurants, a new town square, landscaping and a signature dining pavilion.

Chris Gudgeon, Kiwi Property chief executive, says ‘The Grove’ is excitedly paired with Britomart Hospitality Group, which means the addition of a Mexico and Better Burger to the area.

“The Grove is the next step in Kiwi Property’s long-term vision to create a world-class town center at Sylvia Park,” says Gudgeon. “It is designed to integrate seamlessly with an upgrade and refresh of the existing dining lane, as well as the delivery of our new 10-level office tower, which is currently under construction, and will set a new standard for suburban dining in Auckland.”

Barworks, owners of Garrisons at Sylvia Park, is also reaffirming its confidence in the center with the opening of a new offer in what will be a stylish pavilion building. 

“We are also in talks with a number of other leading New Zealand food operators who are excited about showcasing their latest dining concepts at ‘The Grove’,” says Gudgeon.

 According to the release, the design of The Grove will reflect the original country pedigree of the location, an airy pavilion that will deliver an exciting new-look entrance for the shopping center.

The addition of this new lane reflects the growing consumer culture in Auckland of inclusive and immersive dining experiences that are perfect places for meeting and entertainment.

Karl Retief, general manager - retail at Kiwi Property, says Auckland lacks strong dining experiences out of the CBD, unlike other large cities.

“In addition to a great dining expansion, our plans showcase a world-class public space where the community will be able to go to relax, unwind after a busy day or be entertained with family and friends.”

Architectural design for The Grove

The growth of Sylvia Park has been steady, with the addition of Zara and H&M last year and now the new Grove plans.

The center itself is about 71,000 square metres and remains as New Zealand’s largest connected shopping center and values in at around $724 million.

The center saw total sales of $461 million in the financial year of 2016. This is expected to grow as The Grove plans to become part of the Sylvia Park experience.
